The chosen one

A kneeling male slave kisses a superior Deity’s foot. The collar and the chain that She holds are an honor of sort. This slave  has been chosen from so many to be one of Goddess Yanara's personal attendant slaves.
Why has he been allowed to become a more intimate servant, How has he achieved the highest status possible for a member of the Court?
His eyes seem to express sheer wonder that so glorious a being exists. His every gesture reflects a genuine humility. His speech has a tremulous fear that he can never adequately serve Her. His manner embodies an anticipatory contrition at the mere possibility that he might not be perfectly pleasing.
Humble demeanor and behavior are demanded of all slave men. Some quality of his anxiety satisfies a yearning buried deep within Goddess Yanara's psyche. She enjoys slaves’ fear. Fear that is within certain bounds and would only reinforce service, never hinder it.
She will subject him to special tests. He wouldn’t have been chosen if She felt he could not pass them.
Should he fail the slave would be returned to the Court, his heart crushed and ego destroyed.
